A Repost: Blogger Recognition Award

July 27, 2019justabelfastgirl

Repost from Northern Irish Girl Online blog which is no longer active.

Thanks so much to the lovely Emily Aagard for nominating me for this Blogger Recognition Award. It’s always really lovely to be nominated for awards like this.

What Is The Blogger Recognition Award?

The Blogger Recognition Award is given by fellow bloggers to recognize others within the blogging community. It’s a great way to recognize each other for the hard work we put in as well as share some love for blogs and bloggers we know and love ourselves.

What Are The Rules Of The Blogger Recognition Award?

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you
  2. Write a post to show your award
  3. Give a brief history of how your blog came to be
  4. Give two pieces of advice for new bloggers
  5. Select 15 of your fellow bloggers to give this award to
  6. Comment on their blog and let them know that you nominated them and provide a link to your post.

So, How Did Just Belfast Girl Come To Be?

I started off just purely wanting to be a Beauty and Makeup Blogger. I was going to keep my personal opinions on everything else to myself. Then I was diagnosed with PTSD after a very difficult 2 years. Whilst I’d had all the training in how to deal with other people with this long-term mental health condition, I’d absolutely no idea how to manage it for myself. You’d think I would, but when have we ever taken our own advice? Or counselled ourselves? It just doesn’t work that way, does it?

My first post which you can find, here was my very to the point Suicide and Me post. I had no idea back then where I’d be in six months time, to be honest when I wrote that post I wasn’t even sure if I actually wanted to be on this Earth anymore. You wouldn’t think that reading it, though. I’ve always been very good at hiding my emotional feelings when it comes to things like that.

When I saw the comments come through, then the follows on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, I decided to carry on. I bit the bullet and changed my site to Northern Irish Girl Online, went self-hosted, redesigned my site and changed my niche to fit me. My niche, in case you didn’t know, is a little of everything.

Give Two Pieces of Advice to Bloggers who are Just Starting Out

The first piece of advice is never, ever, ever play the follow/unfollow game, the last thing you want to do is piss off someone who could be your biggest supporter. There are now (thankfully) a lot of apps out there that can tell you exactly who is doing it. Whilst I’ve threatened to name a few culprits in the past, I’ve chosen to rise above, but not everyone is as laid back as me. Be careful as that sort of thing never ends well.

Speaking of support, the second piece of advice is to remember who has supported you and always do the same. We are a very supportive community (mostly), there are others out there that like to bitch about other people’s success, but do nothing to help themselves.

It’s fine to be feeling shite about your blog, trust me we’ve all been there. If I didn’t have the support of some of the amazing people in this community you wouldn’t be reading this right now. We should all have each other’s backs, celebrate the success of others because it’s a success for you, too. We’re a family, here and we should be happy for everyone getting themselves noticed. Your time will come.

Rise above, be kind and be supportive.

    Congratulations for the award!

I wholeheartedly agree on your advices to the new bloggers. Never play the follow and unfollow game because it would give you a bad reputation in the blogging community.

You are very right, Rasya. It’s the same with bullying, which is unfortunately, as rife in the blogging community as it is elsewhere. x
