For those of you who have contacted me and asked if there had been any update since I reported the person to the National Crime Agency, I do have an update. One of the Children’s Service’s Case Worker’s emailed me back to let me know that I wasn’t the only one that brought this person to their attention, they were now investigating it and monitoring the situation.
I sent her an email back to thank her for letting me know and again, expressed that I wasn’t trying to ruin anyone’s life, but this needed to be addressed. The lady was charming and I feel a lot happier about my decision to report this individual, now. Just thought I’d give all those asking an update. The original post is below for all of those who wish to read it.
It will be a difficult read if you feel the way I do about this particular topic and it may not be suitable for someone who has been sexually abused as a child by a paedophile. It is my story on coming across “non-contact” Paedophile’s online and the issue’s I have reporting one of them who happens to work with children.
I was on social media; I won’t say which to protect the identity of the said paedophile, (why? Because, I’m not going to be the one who causes trolls to bully them online as I disagree with that approach, not because I’m physically protecting them. They also haven’t “technically” done anything wrong; I’ll get to that) minding my own business when I happened across this person who had been debating with another person. The person, the paedophile, was arguing with an angry parent that had found out this person was a paedophile and worked with children.
I read some of what was said and couldn’t believe my eyes; there was a group of the paedophile’s claiming to have paedophilia, but claiming to not actually be paedophile’s because they didn’t abuse children. Hmm… a definition of both is provided, below. Make your own judgement as to whether or not that’s correct. I corrected one of them, let’s call them “X” and thus began my debate with them. I’m not one to usually engage with this sort of bullshit as people can defend themselves, but given my research and knowledge on the paedophile’s I just couldn’t let it lay.
Paedophile – a person who is sexually attracted to children.
Paedophilia – is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
It got to the point, where I am ashamed to say, I lost my temper and told them to “trot the fuck on” as I didn’t intend on replying to any more of their bullshit as they likened themselves to slaves and the LGBTQ community. Let me be clear, my ancestor’s were slaves, I have a mixed race background and everyone that knows me knows I’m bisexual and part of the LGBTQ community so I didn’t take kindly to this at all.
As a volunteer with the NSPCC and a student Counsellor, I felt I’d a duty of care to report the one that worked with children, we will call this person “Z”. Did they admit to breaking the law to me, directly? No, so have they committed a crime? Well, it depends on whether you mean a moral crime or an actual crime, doesn’t it?
I couldn’t sleep that night after seeing “Z” openly say they were attracted to prepubescent children between the ages of 4 – 13. From reading the post they did on a website (yes, they posted about it, almost as if they’re proud of it) they disclosed the type of work they did with children, that they had been tempted by their paedophile friends (that do abuse children) in the past and that they had communicated with paedophile’s who claim that children can consent, yep, there are actually people out there that believe that. Do they say anywhere that they reported those paedophiles? No, no they don’t and I don’t intend to ask Z whether they had a brain cell in their head that thought, perhaps that they should.
I was due to speak to “Katie” the next day anyway, if you have read my previous blogs you’ll be aware that Katie is my Counsellor and I also see her as someone I can go to for advice on counselling matters, too. I explained my situation to Katie and that I had reported the individual to the website they were on, but other than receiving an email to thank me, nothing had been done and the posts were still visible.
I asked her what I should do, as I know enough about the law to know that the hands of the police are tied if you can’t prove a crime has been committed. My issue isn’t that a crime was committed, my concern is that this person works with children and to me, there is still a potential danger there, especially if Z had been in contact with “pro-contact” paedophiles in the past.
Katie and I discussed it and I agreed to go to the PSNI and tell them, in the hopes that they’d be able to give me some advice on what to do next. So, that’s what I did, Katie also told me to call the Adult Helpline in the NSPCC, which I did. Long story short, nothing either of them could do so I contacted the National Crime Agency and directed them towards Z’s profile and the post where they discussed their contact with other pro-contact Paedophiles.
To be honest, I’m still in a bit of shock, I am not trying to ruin someone’s life; but at the same time, I don’t want the temptation to even be an issue with this person. I don’t know why I feel slightly guilty, but I’m convincing myself I’ve done the right thing… haven’t I? We need more to be done to protect children, but what? You can’t outright ask someone on an application form if they’re a paedophile, but it doesn’t make it okay that this person is working with children.
I just hope something is done.
